Differences Between Arbitration And Mediation - 1902 Words
Differences between Arbitration and Mediation: Arbitration occurs when a neutral third party ââ¬Å"hears a dispute and imposesâ⬠(Miller Cross, 2013) their decision on both parties. Mediation transpires when an unbiased third party works with both sides to ââ¬Å"facilitate a resolutionâ⬠(Miller Cross, 2013). Arbitration and mediation both work to find a solution to the conflict between two parties; but arbitration differs from mediation through the role of the neutral third party, the formality of the process, the discovery period of a case, and the type of decision. In both arbitration and mediation there is an impartial third party. In arbitration, there tends to be more than one arbitrator. In arbitration, there is a ââ¬Å"panel of multiple arbitratorsâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Mediationâ⬠, 2015), where one arbitrator is chosen by each side. Afterwards, the two arbitrators then ââ¬Å"select a thirdâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Mediationâ⬠, 2015) to complete the panel. The panelà ¢â¬â¢s role in arbitration involves coming to decision after hearing parties ââ¬Å"testify under oathâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Comparisonâ⬠, 2015) and examining the evidence presented. Unlike arbitration, mediators help both parties with the ââ¬Å"discussion and eventual resolutionâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Mediationâ⬠, 2015) of their conflict and case. In a mediation, both parties select a mediator to help create more understanding, which tends to be a less formal process than that of an arbitration. The formality of an arbitration and a mediation varies due to their nature. Voltaires Affect on Modern Western Society Essay - 960 Words
ââ¬Å"I do not agree with what you have to say, but Iââ¬â¢ll defend to death your right to say it,â⬠were the famous words of Fracois Marie Arouet, more commonly known under the pen name of Voltaire. He was known for being very outspoken and rebellious, which got him into trouble with the authorities for most of his life. Voltaire advocated the French bourgeoisie as being ineffective, the aristocracy as being corrupt, and the commoners as being too superstitious. Voltaireââ¬â¢s beliefs on freedom and reason is what ultimately led to the French Revolution, the United States Bill of Rights, and the decrease in the power of the Catholic Church, which have all affected modern western society. The French Revolution was a period of upheaval in France,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦As one can see, his ideas of religious freedom and the government is what brought about the French Revolution, which has affected France up to this very day because they no longer have a royal absolut ist government like they once had. Not only did Voltaire shape the French government, but his ideas also ended up in the United States Bill of Rights. Voltaire fought for civil rights, such as the right to a fair trial and freedom of religion and speech. Early on, Voltaire realized that the Ancien Regime was injustice. He realized that the First Estate (the clergy), the Second Estate (the nobles), and the Third Estate (the commoners and middle class) had an unfair balance of power. He was a large advocate of making the country a more balanced one. When the United States Bill of Rights was written, they made sure to keep the country as equal of power among the people as possible. The amendments of the Bill of Rights limited the powers of the federal government by having checks and balances so that the country wouldnââ¬â¢t end up like France had. The amendments also protected the rights of the citizens. Among the many amendments that were written were freedoms of speech and religio n. The Bill of Rights also restricts Congressââ¬â¢ power by prohibiting them from making any law respecting an estalished religion. Moreover, Voltaire spoke openly about having fair trials for all citizens, regardless of who they are. Business Plan for Opening an Internet Caf̮̩ in Jumia Residential Area
Questions: 1. Identify the steps you would take to start the business. List down the physical and financial resource requirements. Identify the sources of finance available for meeting such financial needs. 2. Assess the implication of these finance resources, i.e. the advantages and disadvantages of choosing the different sources of finance. 3.Which source of finance would you use for your business plan? 4. Explain the importance of financial planning for a small and medium enterprise in Singapore. Answers: (1). Our company plans to start an internet caf business in Jumia residential area. The total budget for starting the business is $ 300,000. There are several sources of finance from which we can seek financial help from. Our company has some saved money of its own in the bank. The money amounts close to $ 280,000. Our company may also consider getting a grant from the government. Our company may also seek the money from venture capitalist. The last option that our company can consider is to seek for a bank loan. Our company prefers the last option of seeking a bank loan so that the borrowed money would be repaid later on. Our company intends to seek for a loan of $ 300,000 from the Central Bank of Singapore. However, there are some physical and financial resource requirements that we must meet before the bank grants us the loan. The requirements include: The bank must check and a prove the creditworthiness of our company There is a credit limit for new customers. Our loan must therefore fall within the set limit. The bank would only increase our credit limit based on the payment record of the first loan and subsequent loans. Our company must provide two good references before we are granted a loan. One of the references must be from a bank. (Pinson, 2014), confirms that the file containing the loan agreement details must be kept by both the involved parties. Our company and the bank too will therefore have a copy of the loan agreement details. According to (Pam, 2014), any available customers financial information should be maintained by the bank. The bank would therefore seek all available financial information about our company before we are granted the loan. General Company Description Our company would put up a large building within the area. We would then purchase computers and place in the building. Our company would thereafter, seek internet connection for the computers from the local mobile service providers. Our company has set up several number of internet cafs in different regions across the country. Our internet services have been appreciated by the members of the community in all the areas where we offer our services. We intend to improve our services even further so as to keep off our competitors. The loaned money would also be used to employs workers and run the operations at the internet caf at the beginning. The business would then be able to sustain its operations once it starts making profits. We would also be able to start repaying the loan using the money from the profits that would be made by the internet caf business. According to (Jennings, 2016), bank loan finance is advantageous when it comes to funding of business because the business a company and the bank is to agree on the terms of loan repayment plan which is acceptable by all the involved parties. Finance resources have many implications. One therefore has to compare the advantages and the disadvantages of the financial resources before making a choice. The implications of financial resources are as follows: (2). Assets and personal savings (Thomas, 2008) states that a companys assets and savings can be a major of stating capital Advantages There is minimal cost of acquisition because they are already owned by the company or the individual person who would wish to start a business There is no interest which would be repaid to banks as in the case of loans. The company or business would not share its business proceeds with investor. All the returns are for the business entity and its owners. Disadvantages Savings can be lost if they are all invested in the business. If the business collapses due to making of loses then all the invested savings would be lost. Retirement account assets are secured from bankruptcy and creditors. It is not appropriate to place such assets under risk especially when one is about to retire and would not have enough time to rebuild the accounts once they are depleted. Government grants These is money that can be given by the government to individuals or companies to enable them start business Advantages Government grants are given for free. They are hence not repaid Disadvantages They are not given to all types of businesses According to (Jennings, 2016), allocation of grants can be affected from one year to another because they are given based on the available funds. When funds are unavailable or inadequate then the government may as well fail to allocate grants. Investors These are people who can assist individuals or companies to raise starting capital needed for business investment Advantages The investors may help in provision of advice to the business owners. Such advice may be of great benefit to the success of the business. Some investors may participate actively in the running of the business Disadvantages According to (Henderson, 2016), control of the company must be shared between the investors and the owners of the business. The investors must be kept happy at all times or else they may pull out if they are unsatisfied. The business owners have to share profits with the investors in case the business risks are also shared between the investors and the business owners. Bank loans (Jennings, 2016), states that commercial banks can provide funding loans to companies and individuals for starting business activities Advantages One is able to keep his/ her money at hand for other purposes such as running the business operations One has the opportunity his/ her important assets in the event that the business ends up making heavy losses. The business owner would facilitate the protection by declaring himself/ herself bankrupt. Disadvantages The borrower has to pay interest alongside the loan Loan repayments must be made as had been agreed even if the business incurs losses. Our company would first carry out financial planning for our internet caf business before the business is finally rolled out in the Jumia residential area Products and Services Our company would offer internet services to customers at affordable prices. We also intend to employ qualified and friendly staff who would interact and attend to our customers. The staff would be able to assist the customers wherever necessary in their attempt to access various sites in the internet. Our company would offer very fast internet which would be appropriate for all categories of people. Students would be able to undertake their online studies at our internet caf without any problem. Social media users would also enjoy our services. We therefore intend to bring a complete solution to the people in regard to the poor internet services that they have along been exposed to for a long period of time. Marketing Plan Our company would come up with a vigorous marketing plan that would ensure that our business becomes successful in the residential area. We would carry out advertisement and road show campaigns in the area so sensitize the people about the impending opening of the internet caf in the region. Our company is well aware of the challenge from the competitors that is awaiting it. We would provide free internet to the local residents for the first two weeks. The move would enable the residents to compare the internet services that we intend to offer against the services that is offered by our competitors. The residents would therefore be able to make informed decisions. Our company would also offer other internet related services such as scanning of documents and photos, printing of documents as well as photocopying of documents. We intend to offer all these services under one roof unlike our competitors who are already in the market within the area. Our competitors are only offering internet services. Our internet caf would be operational even over the weekend. All the internet cafes in the area are closed over the weekend. The people are therefore unable to access internet services over the two day period every week. Our business would fulfill the internet needs of the people in the area over the weekend. We would therefore have an edge over our competitors. Most of the local people would prefer our services because they are accessible during all days of the week. We also intend to provide free internet services one every week to the people who frequently use our internet caf. Most of the area residents would therefore prefer our services. Majority of the local people would prefer our internet services so that they can benefit from the free internet services that we would offer to our esteemed customers. Lastly, we intend to introduce internet Wi-Fi services to the residents after our one year of operation. The local people would be able to subscribe to the internet Wi-Fi services and then enjoy internet from the comfort of their homes. This move would reduce congestion in the internet caf. Operational Plan Our business would be operational every day as from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. There would be a manager at business premises. The manager would be charged with the duty of ensuring that customers needs are well attended to by our staff. The manager would also ensure that the quality of services is guaranteed at all times. Management and Organization The internet caf would be headed by a chief manager who would report directly to our company. There would also be a human resource manager and a marketing manager. The two managers would assist the chief manager in the daily running of the business of the business. Our company would also employ20 qualified workers. The workers would assist customers in case of any need. The workers would also carry out other internet related duties such as photocopying of documents, printing etc. (3). Financial Plan Source of finance for our business plan We would seek for a loan of $ 300,000 from the Central Bank of Singapore in order to finance the business. A written agreement would be made between our company and the bank. The loan would be repaid starting two years from this moment. Our company would repay the loan for a period of 4 years. There are no internet cyber cafes in Jumia residential area. Many people have to constantly visit other areas in search of internet cafes where they can access the internet. We intend to explore advantage of the existing opportunity. (4). Importance of financial planning for small and medium enterprises in Singapore (Hilla, 2016), explains that financial planning enables small and medium enterprises to successful in their business activities. A business is likely to fail if it has no financial plan It helps determine the amount of money that the business enterprises can spend on daily basis. For example, it can be used to determine the amount of money that should be allocated to employees on daily basis. The business could hence be able to carry on with their activities smoothly According to (Batie, 2016), it is necessary for a business organization or company to be granted financial support. Lenders in Singapore dont approve financial support to businesses which dont have financial plan. Business plan provide marketing decisions to business owners. Business owners are able to tell whether the laid down business strategies are effective or not Business plan can be used to measure the progress of the small and medium enterprises. An individual would be able to see clearly the profit growth that is achieved by the business. It can immediately show the business owner if there is a financial downturn. The business owner would then be able to make informed decisions. According to (Rama, 2007) business planning can show the sales trends of the small and medium enterprises. Their owners would then be able to monitor the trends and find out the nature of delivery of the returns. (Pinson, 2016), explains that business plan provides an opportunity for the small and medium enterprises owners to understand the bottom line of their businesses. They would be able to document their profits. They would also be able to establish ways in which the profits can be increased. References list Art DeThomas, S. A. (2008). Pollution and Environment Essay Example
Pollution and Environment Paper One of the dilemmas concerning our environment is saving wild life creatures. Cutting down trees is killing their habitat and ways of living. How would you like it if someone came into your neighborhood and started bulldozing the houses down? Many living species have died because of the habitat changes they have to go through. Many oceans and other water bound areas in the world are being polluted by human waste. Its killing all water creatures and making water unsanitary. If you really think about it, we, as a community, are murderers for polluting an animals homes and ways of life. We are killing so many creatures each day because of all the waste we dont care about and dump into oceans. It really is a horrible thing to think about. The first attempt for wildlife conservation was taken during the 1 9th century according to the North American wildlife conservation model and it was successful also after that so many initiative were attempted like world conservation agency developed by JINN in 1980 with the assistance of UNEVEN and WFM, similarly in 1 972 wild life conservation act was also enacted in India. These all have the motto to conserve the wildlife. Than for saving the environment steps were also taken after holding the different conferences like ROI conference in Brazil, CANCAN in Mexico, ICE [energy utility environment conference] in USA etc. But now the situation says that these were not at all successful in their motto because the rate of extinction of wildlife and deterioration of environment is much faster than their conservation measures and this shows our seriousness towards it. NON etc which comes out through the vehicles and factories etc. Emission of these gases also causing global warming in which the Earths atmospheric temperature increases because these gases forms a blanket like layer in the atmosphere which does not permits the sun rays to return back from the earth surface which causes heating effect and due to this, in past 100 years the Earths temperature is increased by 0. c which serves as a potential threat to the coastal areas due rise in sea level after melting of glaciers and also due to some harmful gases known as chlorofluorocarbon our ozone layer is depleting which saves the living being from the harmful effect of you. V rays which comes through the sun light. What all these animals have in common is that they all enjoy the earth that we live on. We as human must share the planet with these animals and it is our responsibility to save wildlife animals from destruction. Animals in the wild face many dangers in todays environment. Every day, they must battle humans who are trying to destroy their home. When loggers cut down trees, they are not only killing the timber but also cutting down wildlife species homes. Many animals live in the Amazon forest and rely on the special plants and trees in those forests to survive. When humans take it away from them, animals no longer have any place to live. We must also prevent hunters from taking more then they need. Many people are now killing elephants to take their ivory. They are using the ivory to sell specially made crafts on the black market. These pieces ell for hundreds of dollars, thus giving the poacher a big profit. In addition to elephant ivory, poachers have been killing rhinos for their horns as well. They are able to make special daggers with the rhino horn that sells for thousands of dollars around the world. Pollution of the air also affects animals in the wild. Since So many people around the world drives cars, all the exhaust from the automobiles go into the air and causes the air we breathe to be dirty. If it is dirty for humans, then it must be dirty for animals as well. There are many things that people can do to help animals. One of the easiest ways to help wildlife animals is to not litter. By not littering we are able to keep our communities beautiful and clean. That helps animals because the pollution does not get very bad. That way, all the birds and animals out there in the national parks will be able to continue to breathe fresh air and live long and healthy lives. Another way that you can help save wildlife is to not purchase illegal animals as pets. Many people spend money buying exotic animals because they think that it is cool to have a tiger as a pet. But all this does is harming the animals and harms the environment. Another advantage to keep our environment clean is for its physical features. Keeping the outside world looking nice and healthy would make a great difference in everyday life. Being in a healthy environment in general would improve peoples ways of living. If everyone put some effort into keeping the environment clean each day, I believe it would make a big difference. Other people think otherwise, such as the reasons that I am about to share with you. Some believe that people wouldnt want to help clean and protect the environment because it takes up a lot of time. People would much rather do other things than to care for something thats just going to get trashed again. What they dont realize is that if everyone does a little something for the environment every day, there would be great changes in the world, or country. Finance is another big deal with this situation. People are not going to want to pay for machinery or other tools to help save and neaten up our environment. They would rather spend their money on more important things. The environment is our surroundings. There are trees, herbal plants flower, waterfalls, forests, mountains, water, air etc . Every people cant live without this environment. All of us want this environment to spend our life. So we get many things from environment. Example water, trees, air etc. If you clean this surroundings all of us can healthy and strong life. Sows must clean our environment. But todays population are increasing. This population live with environment. So day by day, the people destroy this environment. Specially, I want to tell about the air pollution. In our country, have many industries. So these industries throw chemicals and vessels. In this case, collect lot of carbon dioxide air then elute environment. So many people put garbage to the water. Sometimes this activity does industries. They put their garbage, chemicals to this water. We can get much information regarding this from T. V and newspapers. So what happened this case pollute the water. Many times the fishes are killed. It will be poisonous. And also many people set fire to chine cultivating. It pollutes the environment . We can see so many garbage on road sides. Villagers collect the garbage and they use this garbage as their plants. So if you pollute this environment we will not be able to grow foods. Besides that, he importance Of a clean and healthy environment in tourism and the effects of tourism on our physical environment should be a consideration to all travelers. Whether we realize it or not, we all damage the Earth when traveling. But what can people do to offset this problem? Think about when you hike. Probably youve seen many plastic bottles and trash on the trail or in the forest. When this occurs, the environment is damaged. For these items to break down and decompose, it could take up to hundreds of years. In the meantime, an animal may come along and try to eat it, thus injuring or officiating the animal, thereby killing an innocent victim. In addition, when hikers hike, mountain climb and camp in national parks, they must bring all waste outside the park to dispose of it. This means bodily waste as well, believe or not. National parks are so strict that hikers bring their own baggies for excrement and then dispose of them in trash bins later. This proves that anything people leave in a protected, natural area can actually destroy it. A clean environment guarantees a healthy life. The place we live determines the state of our health. A dirty, mosquito prone environment, air polluted area ill certainly endanger our health. Clean up your environment always, destroy all containers that could breed mosquito, and avoid a highly industrialized area. These areas will certainly be polluted with industrial waste. Cleanliness is next to godliness. Maintain a clean environment and hence maintain a healthy living. It is very important to take care about our environment because our health directly depends on the health of our environment. It is very easy to find dirt and pollution at many places across the world and large population of world is living in such bad and unhygienic notations. People are drinking unclean drinking water and they are breathing polluted air; so, this pollution of environment IS causing many people to suffer from various health problems. Whereas if we live in a clean environment then we can live a healthy life and we can achieve this by understanding the importance of clean environment. It is very important for every individual in this world to understand that clean environment is very imp ortant for health of all human being. Any kind of pollution which is causing damage to environment is equally bad for whole humanity. Today various kind of serious health problems like cancer are increasing fast across the world and main reason behind the increase of these health problems is increasing pollution of our environment. Today, we see a slight awareness in masses about increasing pollution levels and therefore, we are seeing some actions from all wakes of life; however, still lots of work is required to be done by all of us to have a clean and healthy environment. First step in this campaign is to make people aware about importance of clean environment and how it can help us in remaining healthy.

Descriptive Writing - Hotels Essays - Indus Basin, Swat District
Descriptive Writing - Hotels My vision of the perfect ending to a stressful day is easily described. I walk through the front door, and I am greeted with a cheerful smile and a helping hand with my belongings. Then, a complete stranger in a tuxedo, who makes casual conversation with me, escorts me to my room. As he opens the door for me, I enter a beautifully arranged room with everything in complete order as if it has never been touched. Even the damp towel from my morning shower has been replaced by a fresh one. Later in the evening, I have the dinner of my choice delivered to me by another smiling man dressed in a tuxedo. No, I am not dreaming. This dream day can happen to anyone on any day of the year without winning the lottery. This mythical day could be yours for as little as $100 a night. Yes, this can be yours at any luxury hotel. As a child, I thought hotels were mansions. Perhaps the most memorable part of any of these skyscrapers was the revolving door. I mastered the ultimate prank to pull on younger siblings. Once my kid brother would get half way through the revolving door, I would stop walking. This doesnt sound very scary does it? However, if you are four years old and a sissy, it is terrifying. My brother would be stuck between the outside and the inside and was too weak to escape. I am sure that this is a classic prank in all families and one that usually results in a swat on the behind. I am equally sure that the swat is well worth it. After surviving the revolving door, I can see plants on my left and right. In the center of the lobby is a small water fountain filled with crystal clear water and old pennies scattered across its aqua bottom. Up ahead are more plants, the reservation desk, and three clerks dressed in burgundy vests and white undershirts nearly hidden by their computers. Behind the clerks is a solid white wall with four identical clocks, each showing the time for a different time zone. Once I am checked in, a nicely dressed young man pushing a solid brass cart with a red carpeted base comes over and loads all of my luggage and sometimes even my youngest sibling onto the cart. As two large metal doors open, my whole family steps into a closet-sized elevator. Surrounded by mirrors, my family encounters one of the biggest conflicts of the day. Who will push the floor destination button? This usually results in at least five circular buttons being lit up and my father pushing the emergency stop button. This time, everyone gets a swat on the behind, including the bell boy. The first thing I notice when I walk in the hotel room is the near-freezing draft flowing throughout the room. The bathroom, which resembles the kind seen in hospitals, is usually on the left. It has a white tiled floor, white towels, white walls, and white shower curtain. A large mirror hangs at eye level and below it is the bogus marble sink. On the vanity lies a complimentary basket of toiletries, which includes a bar of facial soap, a bar of deodorant soap, a bottle of shampoo, a bottle of conditioner and, if you are lucky, a shower cap that no guest ever uses. I dont have any actual statistics to back this up, but I believe that these are the items most likely to be stolen nationwide. After touring the bathroom, I and my brothers have done our touring and have made our way to the trampoline/beds. We receive another swat on the behind that is well worth it. Then we settle in, fluff our pillows, kick back and enjoy the free cable. From this point on, a major portion of the vacation week is spent loafing and indulging ourselves with food and drink from the tiny, never-empty refrigerator that keeps magically refilling itself. Checking out is like having a root canal. No one really wants to do it, but it has to be done. There will be no more loafing around all day, no more room service and no more free beverages. What? They werent free? Why wasnt I told about this? I thought that guy on the Kenmore commercial magically refilled those little refrigerators for free. How much? Now everyone gets another swat on the behind. In essence, staying in a nice

Augustus Caesar and his rise to power essays
Augustus Caesar and his rise to power essays Augustus Caesars rise to power and transformation of the Roman Republic into the great Empire was able to happen because of his great ability to gain support from his military soldiers, the senate, and the people. His relationship with each varied, but ultimately lead to him becoming known as the creator of the Roman Empire. Through the gaining of well timed support from the senate, and retaining popularity with his army and the people he was able to gain the political power needed in order to give Rome the opportunity of changing into the Empire it came to be. Augustuss mass approval from the senate was the main reason how he gained enough power to take Rome to the next level and fully solidify it as a world power and one of the greatest Empires in world history. Augustuss speeches to the senate, was one of the ways in which he gained the respect as a leader. Having attained my highest hopes, members of the senate, what more have I to ask of the immortal gods that I may retain the same unanimous approval of yours to the very end of my life (page 53, DWP). He was also quite modest in receiving titles and accolades from the senate and by the people. By refusing titles early in his political career, he was perceived to be honest and his intentions to be in the best interest of the Republic and not his own power. However when he did accept the titles given to him and once he saw his power growing, this is when Augustus began to change Rome from the Republic it had been, and into the Empire it is most notably remembered for. The senate remain ed intact and still acted as it did during the past, but unless it gained the approval of Caesar, actions by the senate did not take place. And if someone was elected but was not seen fit to hold the position in the eyes of Caesar than that person would not hold office....yet he took care that no persons should hold office who were unfit or elected as the r...

The leaders Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
The leaders - Essay Example of how you relate to others at work and at homeâ⬠(Whitmore, 2009, p 2). In the day today life of the present world many leaders are seen in business, politics, religion, and the like. A leader should have some basic qualities to become a good leader. A leader is the person who leads by example through his charismatic personality and as such he differs considerably from a boss. The boss always orders and others are compelled to obey him or her. In the case of a leader he or she never orders but leads others and knows well the power of group dynamism. A leader should ââ¬Å"Canvass team membersââ¬â¢ views about the desirability of arranging structured social time togetherâ⬠and he should ââ¬Å"put support in place to deal, in confidence of requested, with individual troubles or concerns as they ariseâ⬠(Whitmore, 2009, p.146). To speak frankly, a leader has great works to carry out. It is very difficult to be a good leader. In the industrial world to manage a group of persons with different emotional level is difficult but a skilled leader can manage them well. In this regard it can be said that a leader should have the enough emotional stability. The E.Q. and I.Q. of a leader should be high to manage others. Such leaders are fully accepted by the fellow mates whereas despotic rulers are not considered as leaders because they never lead the people but issue orders only. A leader never brings blame culture to the office and would always emphasis on joined and shared responsibility. An effective team leader is the one who inspires, motivates and protects all in the group and helps them out in times of problems. The nature of finding fault with others and accusing them for the mistakes will not make a good leader in a person. One of my friends who were employed in Smith and co once told me that his boss was always finding fault with others and this used to provoke all in the group. As this was the nature of his boss the performance of the group w as not up to the mark. The personnel manager of the company later came to know about the matter and finally the team leader was changed. Then the result of the team turned to be successful. Once the ineffective leader was changed and replaced by an effective leader, the group produced desired results. The company could gain much profit by this action. A good leader always likes to learn new skills together with his group. He or she provides the rules acceptable for the group in which he or she works. This will help the group to contribute as much as they can. A good leader is the man filled with the elements of confidence. Moreover, he has amble belief in himself. Only a person who has confidence in oneself will have confidence in others. The famous leader M.K. Gandhi, hailed as the father of India, was such a person. He lead from the front and he himself stood in the front for attaining freedom for the country. He was confident in his actions and on his followers too. So even today in across the world he is considered as a great leader. A leader is a person who has the capacity to dream to achieve his

The Color Purple. Applying Adult Learning Theory Through Character Assignment
The Color Purple. Applying Adult Learning Theory Through Character Analysis - Assignment Example Description of the characterââ¬â¢s learning The film identifies its narrator, Celie, as an uneducated woman who is oppressed by her stepfather who rapes her, makes her pregnant and then steals her children. She writes letters to communicate to God but she maintains a passive role in her life as she submits to abuses under her stepfather and later from her husband. Her learning develops from a naà ¯ve uneducated woman to an informed woman who knows of herself worth and can take a stand to defend her position and ideas. She initially assumed little control over her life and environment and a quiet and invisible position for survival, as is evident in her passive position towards her abusive stepfather and her husband. Celieââ¬â¢s learns through her interaction with Shug Avery, a music icon who is beautiful and have potentials to achieve her objectives. Avery stimulates Celieââ¬â¢s development and allows Celie to unwind her history to gain sexual, spiritual and voice empowerment. Avery also succeeds in exposing Celie to ne w perspectives from which Celie can develop new insights about live. An example of such exposure is in religion in which Avery exposes Celie to a new form of God who is not traditional and one who treats people as equals regardless of their gender. Avery also helps Celie to discover Nettieââ¬â¢s previous letters. The letters informs her of her history and empowers her to comprehend her thoughts and emotions towards independence and she is able to protest against her husbandââ¬â¢s oppressive acts. Celie also learns, through her interaction with Avery, of self-actualization potential and succeeds in developing a sewing enterprise from an assumed position of a part time activity for women who only perform domestic roles, to a profitable and established business that also gains her financial independence from her husband (Walker). The scope of Celieââ¬â¢s learning identifies the role of a moderator as Celie adopts an active learning approach in the process. In her interaction w ith Avery, Avery does not instruct Celie on what to do, neither does she tell her how to conduct herself, but the two women undergo the learning process together. Avery, for example, prod Celieââ¬â¢s past that allows Celie to develop spiritual and sexual aspects. Averyââ¬â¢s narrations also empower Celie and with the help of Avery, Celie discovers Nettieââ¬â¢s letters that lead Celie to new knowledge about her past and her children. Interaction with Avery also empowers Celie to self-actualization and the change in perspectives and capacity occurs through Celieââ¬â¢s active interaction with Averyââ¬â¢s world and her experience to transform her life and perception on life (Walker). Factors that caused the character to learn The film identifies interaction between Celie and Avery as the immediate reason for Celieââ¬â¢s learning. Factors into the learning can however be explored through Mezirowââ¬â¢s transformational learning theory and through Knowlesââ¬â¢ theor etical based assumptions on adult learning. Knowlesââ¬â¢ assumptions explain motivational factors as a cause of Celieââ¬â¢s learning. Knowles explains that learning is continuous and can occur at any age, aspect that allows Celie to learn at an elderly stage. Her ability to direct herself in learning, subject to Knowles self-concept assumption, is one of the factors that empowered Celie to learn from her interaction w

The Education Structure Of Two Countries Education Essay
The Education Structure Of Two Countries Education Essay Education and training human sense of responsibility to the community and country To do the tasks mentioned above, the education agency to help children discover their unique talents, aware of all potential and develop enthusiasm for learning throughout life. The main reason that education is the basis of all nations, root of all skilled, educational development will be synonymous with economic development and prosperity of the country. I will compare and contrast the similar and different types of education in my country Vietnam and education of the country that currently I am studying in the USA. The education structure of 2 countries is quite similar: elementary school, secondary school, high school, university and some courses after graduate in university. Elementary school (from 5-10 years old): Six years or up in age, children in the kindergarten and usually complete elementary school level in grade five or six classes. The school year is called class. Middle school (from 11-13 years old) two or three years, depending on the school system , Also known as secondary school . At age five, children often learn a kindergarten and then in grade 1 to grade 6 in primary schools. Grade 7 to grade 9 is held in a high school separate facility, also known as secondary schools. Curriculum is focused on major studies such as math, science, literature, history and language, as well as historical and educational subjects on objects and the environment. Next is high school, we know that ità ¢Ã ¢Ã¢â¬Å¡Ã ¬Ã ¢Ã¢â¬Å¾Ã ¢s from grade 10 to grade 12. At this point, students can usually ch oose the subjects to choose from the different areas. Graduate students in the U.S. currency will have passed the exam in the country called the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test). However, international students often just prove proficiency in English with a TOEFL score. The high school level, education in Vietnam proved more difficult, relatively large amount of knowledge along with the rules, regulations, examinations rigorous. Vietnam grade students 10 to 12 proved better about the theory of natural subjects, as well as society; but lacks of practical and physical. Also in contrast, in the U.S., students are exposed more to the fact, to participate in experiments such as physics, chemistry, biology, along with the many sports activities are included in order to help students develop more comprehensive. I believe that differences as clear as possible to the university courses, colleges, and courses after graduation such as masters, doctorate. So this is the reason that I choose go to the US to study in university and not Vietnam. In general, the system of postsecondary schools are classified into five American type: Vocational School, Community College, Public University, Private University, Liberal Arts College. That is the point so different from education in Vietnam. System of vocational schools is few and almost not considered important, along with private universities are not high quality but very expensive fees. University type of public good quality is required exam too hard and strict, while the normal type of school just to have poor quality students. But in compare, Vietnamese students are very curious and hard, so should the students pass difficulties and learning in schools even that school is not good , they still become successful. Anyway to catch up the speed of devel opment with the world, Vietnam has been somewhat more attention to the important residential schools gifted as music, painting, film, photography, with attention also to the quality rather than quantity of teaching . I will say more about this issue to see clearly the difference. Usually the American education system, including 12 first year undergraduate school. Thus an international student can complete 12 years of upper secondary school before going to school in America. This is a very good opportunity for foreign students like me to be trained in the US. This most prominent of the education system is the most American presidents, prime minister and other leaders, research has advanced U.S. degrees and graduate or postgraduate study in the education system U.S. American education system is the sum of universities world-renowned academic programs which have reached its peak with the most modern in the world. American education system is a typical characteristic is the number of foreign students is very high. Almost all classes, schools, the number of international students account for more than half to the east. Environment for international students is also very rich in culture, foreign langua ges and people. Not where you will see the number of foreign intellectuals as large as in the U.S. The international students can attend school in the university obtained a 2-year-associate degree or obtained a four year-bachelors degree. Although most universities in four years for students accepted into the majors but not selected to the second year all students must be informed and choose their majors. The students finished second in the certificate may continue to study at the school in four years and obtained the certificate in four college graduates. Students achieve certification 4-year college graduates can continue to study for a certificate or Masters Degree Doctoral Degree. Certificate is a Masters Degree with two years of service for intensive training in a specific field. Students can get into training programs master if they have a university degree in the field. However, there are many exceptions, such as an MBA (master of business administration) students do not need to graduate with a degree in business administration. Students can continue to improve the knowledge and intensive research on a narrow sector can participate in any training program Doctoral Degree (PhD). A college student with a 4-year college graduates can not achieve sufficient depth career, so they are often studied by the higher level as a masters degree or PhD degree. For example, if a person want to economists at the level of local authorities, he or she should have a master, and if want to teach economics at a university is required by the PhD. In addition, some subjects in depth study level only high school, such as law, medicine, dental school of the masters program and doctoral. Completely opposite, in Vietnam, of course masters or doctoral not good and not very much. However, as the initial step should be acceptable. And this is also the weaknesses of education in my country, where very few masters doctorate trained in Vietnam. often they are scholarship to study and t rain abroad. But I hope that this will be the foundation for future development of education over Vietnam when these people have experience, qualifications, they will help the young generation, helping to develop education.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail Essay -- essays research papers
à à à à à ââ¬Å"Monty Python and the Holy Grailâ⬠is a satiric comedy about the quest of King Arthur. The movie starts out with Arthur, King of the Britons, looking for knights to sit with him at Camelot. He finds many knights including Sir Galahad the pure, Sir Lancelot the brave, the quiet Sir Bedevere, and Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-as-Sir Lancelot. Through satire and parody of certain events in history (witch trials, the black plague) they find Camelot, but after literally a quick song and dance they decide that they do not want to go there. While walking away, God (who seems to be grumpy) come to them from a cloud and tells them to find the Holy Grail. They agree and begin their search. While they search for the Grail, scenes of the knight's tales appear and the reasons behind their names. Throughout their search, they meet interesting people and knights along the way. Most of the characters die; some through a killer rabbit (which they defeat with the hol y hand grenade), others from not answering a question right from the bridge of Death, or die some other ridiculous way. In the end, King Arthur and Sir Bedevere are left and find the Castle Arrrghhh where the Holy Grail is. They are met by some French soldiers who taunted them earlier in the film and were not able to get into the castle. The movie ends with both King Arthur and Sir Bedevere being arrested for killing a real-life man who was a historian. In the movie, the three main types of comedy I recognized were farce, parody, and satire. Farce is comedy designed to provoke the audience into simple, hearty laughter and often uses highly exaggerated or caricatured character types and puts them into improbable and ludicrous situations. It also makes use of broad verbal humor and physical horseplay. Some examples of farce in the movie are: â⬠¢Ã à à à à In the beginning of the movie, you hear the sound of music and horses. However, it turns out that it was not horses at all; it was the sound of King Arthurââ¬â¢s squire pounding two coconut halves together to make the sound of horses galloping. They then go on to confront two soldiers at the castle gates o invite their lord to be apart of the round table .they approach a castle and are quickly confronted by soldiers on top of the castle walls. The soldiers go on to question about their mode of transportation. King Arthu... ...arody is the imitation if a work of literature, art, or music for amusement or instruction. Parody usually uses exaggeration or inappropriate subject matter to make a serious style seem ridiculous. Some examples parodies in the movie are: â⬠¢Ã à à à à The comedic affect of the scene where Arthur and his men are kept away from the castle by farm animal warfare is a parody to when King Uther Pendragon attacked the Duke of Cornwallââ¬â¢s castle and was kept off with fire, soldiers and other one would expect in combat. â⬠¢Ã à à à à There was a scene where King Arthur and his knights hid inside of a wooden rabbit to invade the castle. This was a parody of the wooden Trojan horse used to invade the Greeks in the Illiad. The comedic affect was delivered when the king and his men got out of the horse before they even got into the castle. â⬠¢Ã à à à à There were also scenes ever so often a historian would pop up and give you a brief narrative about what was going on in the movie. This was a parody of all the historians that covered the story of Arthur. The comedic affect was delivered when Arthur killed the historian at the end of the movie.

Do you think Candyââ¬â¢s opinion of Curleyââ¬â¢s wife is fair Essay
ââ¬Å"Do you think Candyââ¬â¢s opinion of Curleyââ¬â¢s wife is fair or does Steinbeck show us a character that has had so many disappointments in her life and is lonely that we can understand why she acts as she does? I myself donââ¬â¢t think that candyââ¬â¢s opinion of curleyââ¬â¢s wife is fair, this is because all the people on the ranch have made up there minds that she is a tart because of the way she dresses and the way she tries to flirt with them, but she doenââ¬â¢t mean to put the impression to the ranch workers that she is a tart but looks can be deceiving. She dresses and looks this way because she has always dreamed of being in the movie business, living in Salinas at only at the age of 15 she wrote to a man in the movie business but had no reply,Her dreams of staring in her own movie were smashed into a million pieces. Now when she is older and wiser she still has no ambitions. Then she married Curly. Now married to Curly she is always lonely, this is because she is away from her family and friends, shes ignored by Curly (when he is around!) because he is always in town or in whore houses,on the ranch there is nothing for her to do except sit around doing nothing. This is why she tries to make friends with the people on the ranch because she is lonely, but the ranch workers think she is trying to get them into trouble with curly, and because she hasnââ¬â¢t got over her trauma of being rejected by the movie business she wants to live out the fame and dream of being a movie star in front of the ranch workers.the ranch workers are too scared to have any business with her because if they do they know that curly would give them the beating of there lives. Later in the story lennie is the only person who she manages to have a proper conversation with,at first lennie tells curlyââ¬â¢s wife that George told him to stay away from her because she will get him into trouble and that she is bad news, but she manages to make it slip Lennies mind by asking him questions about things he likes like soft things, furry things, rabbits, etc and he is easily led into them conversations because they are all his favourite things he mostly likes. When she asks him if he likes petting and touching soft things he got very excited, then she asked him if he wanted to touch her soft golden hair,he replyââ¬â¢s yes. When he is petting her soft locks of hair he starts to get more and more of a grip of her it,she tells him that is enough he blocks her voice out of his head and continues to have a firm grip, she tries to struggle away from him with no success, then when she screams Lennie got scared because he knew she would get him into trouble so with his bear like hands he covers her mouth but she still managed to shout for help so Lennie done the only thing he knew he would do to shut her up for good!,and breaks her neck like a twig.

Free Essays on Role Of Women In Relation To Mill On The Floss
The role of women in society is very different today compared to the role of women in Victorian society, in the 19th Century. Discuss this statement with reference to Maggie Tulliver in ââ¬ËMill On The Flossââ¬â¢ Since the book ââ¬ËMill on The Flossââ¬â¢ was written nearly two hundred years ago, it is no surprise that society has changed, especially for women. The fact that Mary Anne Evans had to use a pen name of ââ¬ËGeorge Eliotââ¬â¢ as she was a woman and her works would not have been published otherwise, shows alone what the attitudes towards women were, that of sheer insignificance in the country and in the social circle. In Britain today women stand side by side with men, in the struggle for Independence, and are playing a key role in the search for a lasting peace and consolidated democracy for the country. Dramatic changes came mainly with women appearing in parliament, receiving the right to vote that is equal to that of a man. Women had scored some social victories as well, particularly the Law on Maternity, which provides for family planning, the recognition of consensual union as equivalent to marriage, equality of children whether born to a wedded or unwedded couple, and a cabinet office to promote women's development. The African American Civil rights movement
The African American Civil rights movement Introduction Several major events took place in the United States and around the world during the 1960ââ¬â¢s. The United States witnessed counter culture and social revolution that ended with abolishment of retrogressive laws that had established social taboos in the country (Beito Royster, 2009). Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The African American Civil rights movement specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In this paper I will discuss how my own life could have been different had it not been for the civil rights movements that happened in the 1960s. Secondly, I will show how the same event influenced my choice of career path, and finally, I will describe how the world could have been different had it not been for the civil rights movement. How life could have been different had not been for the civil rights movement The civil rights movement (commonly referred to as African American civil rights movements) describe s the social movements that took place in the United States to end discrimination against black people and restore their right to vote (Farber, 1994). The majority of the campaigns begun in 1955 and were characterized by civil disobedience. During the 1960s notable achievements were made including the passage of a Civil rights Act in 1964 that outlawed any form of discrimination towards people of a different ââ¬Å"race, color or national origin in employment practices and public accommodationsâ⬠; in 1965, the voting rights of African Americans were restored following the passage of the Voting Rights Act 1965; in the same year, the Immigration and Nationality Services Act of 1965 was enacted (Harrison Dye, 2008, p. 34). The act allowed immigrants from other regions of the world, other than the traditional Europe to enter the United States (Goluboff, 2007). In 1968, ââ¬Å"the Fair Housing Act 1968 was enactedâ⬠to ensure that everyone had an equal opportunity to buy or r ent a house in the US (Harrison Dye, 2008). The achievements that were made following the civil rights movements inspired young people across the country and saw African Americans re-entering politics in the Southern States (Goluboff, 2007). My life could have been significantly different had it not been for these legislative achievements that followed the civil rights movement. The civil rights Act of 1964 basically banned segregation in the US. It gave all the Americans the right to be served equally in facilities that were open to the public including equal access to education (Harrison Dye, 2008).Advertising Looking for essay on african american? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More I honestly believe that the peace and cultural diversity that we currently enjoyed in the US is as a result of the legislative changes that followed the civil rights movement. Had it not been for this changes I could now be living in a segregated society that is full of mistrust, violence and other social ills. Notably, the civil rights movements did not only ensure equal rights for African Americans but also other minority groups such as Latinos and Asian Americans. In addition, the movements opened the eyes of the majority of the Americans thereby effectively transforming their attitudes. Had it not been for the civil rights movement I could now be part of a conservative society that basically trusts the government on everything. America could not be enjoying the role model status that it is currently accorded internationally. Through the schooling process I have acquired many friends from different racial backgrounds. The segregation that was predominant prior to the civil rights movement denied Americans the opportunity to freely mix with people from other races. This implies that had the situation remained the same then I could not be having the freedom to associate with people from other races. Itââ¬â¢s sad to think that I or some of my friends could have been denied a chance to pursue our dream careers. Prior to the civil rights movements, Americans were not active people and frequently followed the governmentââ¬â¢s opinion (Farber, 1994). Itââ¬â¢s important to note that following the civil rights movements many American citizens opened their eyes, changed their attitudes and begun to press for effective leadership. Everyone realized the need to pursue the American dream. Since then, Americans have played leading roles in determining the extent to which the government can indulge in international affairs. Not so long after the civil rights movements, Americans were already urging their government to withdraw troops from Vietnam. Others pieces of lSegislations that were enacted following the civil rights movements such as the Voting Rights Act 1965 and the Immigration and Nationality Services Act of 1965 have greatly influenced the American society (Beito Royster, 2009). African Americans have been politically active since the enactment of the voting rights Act 1965. Had it not been for the civil movements, I could now be part of a divided society where politics is an exclusive reserve for one race. I could never have lived to see a black president leading our country. The Immigration Act allowed immigrant from all over the world to come to America. This has led to a culturally rich and diverse society that is comparable to none. Therefore without the 1960s civil rights movements I could not be enjoying the benefits of cultural diversity such as foods and festivities.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The African American Civil rights movement specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More How the civil rights movements influenced my career path The events that were happening prior to the civil rights movement showed how human beings can subject fellow human beings to discrimination. Learning about such happenings gave me the desire to take a career path that can enable me to advocate for the rights of others, particularly those who are disadvantaged in the society. I realized that many of our citizens are involved in epic struggles and really need support from the society in order to make it through (Beito Royster, 2009). Therefore by selecting a course that offered me a chance to effectively contribute to the society through advocacy, I feel that it will be possible for me to live a fulfilling life that takes into account the needs of others. The harsh struggles that characterize the American history, including the liberation wars and the civil rights movement have validated my desire to take a course in social sciences and understand how the society functions and how I can be able to assist through advocacy. How the world would be had it not been for the civil rights movements The racial conflicts that were taking place in America prior to the civil rights movements wer e also being witnessed in many parts of the world. Several governments around the world were not keen to protect the rights of their minority citizens. For instance, majority of European nations had colonies in Africa where their representatives were subjecting Africans to exploitation and brutality. Other countries such as New Zealand and Australia had no formal laws to protect the rights of the indigenous minority citizens. Itââ¬â¢s important to note that the United States had portrayed itself as the leader of the free world and yet many of its citizens were being subjected to severe racial discrimination. Back then, Europe was the only important continent to the US as far good foreign relations were concerned. Many communist states publicly lamented the hypocrisy portrayed by the United States. Thus the events that followed the civil rights movements validated the countryââ¬â¢s portrayal as a model democracy that observed the rights of its citizens. The civil rights movem ent gave America the chance to appeal to many countries in the world without severing ties with its traditional allies in Europe. It has also been on the forefront in urging other countries to enact appropriate legislations that are needed to protect the rights of minority groups. The effects of the civil rights movements played a role in the development of good relationships between the US and other regions whose descendants were initially being racially abused in the US. These regions include South America, Africa and Asia. The good relations have in turn created a platform for globalization. Therefore without the laws that followed the civil rights movement globalization activities such as international trade could not have been developed to the current level. In addition, the US could not have gotten the voice to call for change in other countries, and thus most countries could still have been in chaotic states. Conclusion This paper sought to describe how the scenario could ha ve been without the civil rights movement. It has established that the freedom and diversity currently enjoyed by Americans today could have been a pipe dream. The paper has also shown how the civil rights influenced my career path by inspiring the desire to advocate for other peopleââ¬â¢s rights. The effects of the civil rights movements also played a role in globalization. References Beito, D., Royster, L. (2009). Black Maverick: T.R.M. Howards Fight for Civil Rights and Economic Power. Money Judgement Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Money Judgement - Essay Example In most cases, people intentionally do this, while some others face difficulties because of their poverty or personal inconveniences. Debt collection indicates a means which helps in collecting individual debts and reminds the debtors of their requirements to pay outstanding debt. "The matter of debt collection comes into the issue when procuring debt payment from debtors through ordinary credit control process is proved ineffective" (Getting Paid by Debtors, 2006). "Debt recovery policy is concerned primarily with the recovery of debts prior to legal action being taken but the principles should still be applied wherever appropriate even if litigation has commenced (Debt Management, 2007, p.3). A fair and sound debt recovery policy is a sine qua non for the effective and working finance regime in a given country. "Debt recovery policy should be fair to everyone, particularly for the well- being of low incomes people" (Corporate Debt, 2005, p.3). People are to suffer much hardship in collecting debts. However, in order to win the legal battle in recovering debt money, concerned party or creditor is to arrange sufficient documents and evidences for the courts satisfaction that the said creditor is entitled to have the disputed debt money. "Successful debt recovery suggests the conglomeration of adequate evidences and in particular proof of rent arrears, invoices for remedial work and copies of the inventory and condition check" (Made Easy, 2005). The growing expansion and gradual development of trade and commerce within a state and between states have made the financial dealings and business regulations more complicated. As a result, countries have sharply experienced the necessity of a well- structured debt collection policy corresponding to the existing business regulation. "An ideal debt collection policy provides an overarching framework and covers the collection of Rents, Council Tax, Business Rates, Sundry Debts and Housing and Council Tax Benefit overpayments" (Corporate Debt, 2005). Debt recovery strategy requires a close and continuous contact between the debtor and creditor or the solicitor appointed by the creditor for recovering the debt money. "An effective debt recovery strategy involves a combination of communication methods; such as, telephone, mail, visiting and so on" (Debt Recovery Guidelines, 2002, p.5). Of course, the manner of such contacts should not be oppressive or threatening, and must conform to t he accepted good practices. Implementing an effective UK debt recovery strategy is a priority for any business wishing to maximise its cash flow. Amongst nations, UK is mostly concerned to reform its debt recovery strategy and accordingly it has been continuously striving to erect a well-shaped debt recovery strategy. "Debt recovery procedures were significantly changed in 1999 following the reforms implemented by Lord Woolf after the Woolf report" (Debt recovery Agents, n.d.). Again, it is said that "[d]ebt recovery procedures and a corporate debt recovery policy were last approved by Cabinet in June 2006. The procedure relates to all types of debt i.e. Council Tax arrears, Business Rates and sundry debts" (Report of DCS, 2007, p.2). 3. Modes of Recovering Debt money Frequent Cash flow and the prompt

A DIFFICULT CHOICE Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
A DIFFICULT CHOICE - Essay Example Chances of avalanches are real! It is not possible for anyone to survive in this condition of blinding blizzard, in the tent for 10-15 days at a stretch. Even the return journey is going to be perilous! We venture to give this advice to you from our fifteen yearsââ¬â¢ experience with the moods of the Himalayas. The weather may worsen further or everything may be perfect by tomorrow. That is the unpredictability about the Himalayas.â⬠At our insistence they agreed to stay in this camp for another two days. If the weather is fine by tomorrow, we shall make a trial ascent in the morning and return to the camp by evening. That will give us confidence for the final assault and to acclimatize our bodies to high altitude conditions. My dear friend, you know the challenge of Mount Everest has been my daring dream. My birth at Colorado has something to do with it. But let me tell you, mountaineering at Colorado, are kindergarten stuff as compared to the challenge of the Himalayas. From a distance, Everest looks a graceful and gentle mountain. In the climberââ¬â¢s life its conquest is the ultimate achievement. I came here in pursuit of that ambition, and my girl-friend Sandia, had reservations about the timings of my adventure. ââ¬Å"Attempt it two-three years after our marriage,â⬠she often pleaded. ââ¬Å"No, you will marry the Everest hero, not an ordinary mountaineer,â⬠I retorted. Right now we are in a brutally exposing situation. In all probability, we are up to a do or die situation. In any case, we two will not give up without making a final attempt on the summit, when the blizzard stops and the weather turns favorable. Frankly, I have no moral courage to address this letter to Sandia directl y. She is tender-hearted and would be unable to bear the shock of my being stuck up in the snowy heights of the Himalayas. When you get this letter, meet her, do pep talks to bolster up her spirits and then show her the letter. With

Dissertation Power Point Additions - Assignment Example (In many cases, inadequate knowledge on the biomedical factors related to obesity in childhood, the possible factors were not revealed, and as a result, the phenomenon of childhood obesity and its holistic medicine implications were less understood and hence remained unknown) (Mainstream biomedical model of healthcare can access this population, but that field is totally unaware of the holistic dimension of the requisite interventions, hence fails to implement them leading to failure to control childhood obesity) (This author's knowledge and expertise in holistic medicine and ability to apply appropriate research methodology may lead to delineation of guidelines based on clinical holistic medicine that may indeed fruitfully lead to successful interventions culminating into behavioral changes in children) (Biomedical solutions have been ineffective in controlling these problems, although these have been able to deliver the factors that cause childhood obesity. Behavioral theories pertinent to holistic medicine indicate that lifestyle change is a matter of behavioral modification, which may be initiated by awareness about the factors related to the problem, but sustenance of these changed behaviors must have an element of self-effort on the part of individuals at risk or already affected) Holistic family interventions to modify

Cultural Awareness and Competence Essay Example for Free
Cultural Awareness and Competence Essay Cultural awareness and competence refers to the ability of an individual to postpone judgment and prejudice toward other people based on their religious background, race or ethnicity, sexual orientation or gender, age, and such, and also oneââ¬â¢s capability of understanding, accepting, and even adapting to unfamiliar culture, points of view, beliefs, ideologies, traditions, etc. Raising oneââ¬â¢s cultural awareness and competence requires allocating time and exerting effort in learning and understanding the concepts of multiculturalism or cultural diversity. For instance, developing specific learning goals and a plan of action is an excellent start to promoting cultural awareness. My desire to raise my cultural awareness of two specific groups, particularly homosexuals and individuals belonging to the black population, require that I set personal learning goals and a plan of action that will guide how I am going to go about the process of learning and understanding culture based on race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. For this particular case, I believe that two of my learning goals should include reviewing the history of the African-American people, particularly the reasons why they are being discriminated upon, as well as the unfamiliar cultural practices and traditions and the meaning and significance that deepens or intensify their culture, and understanding the personal sentiments and emotions of homosexuals in order for me to recognize where they are coming from and be able to empathize with them in the process regarding their unfortunate situation especially when it comes to being judged or discriminated because of their sexual orientation. In order for me to realize the aforementioned learning goals, I plan to conduct research by reading books, magazines, newspaper articles, journal publications, research studies, online articles, and such, about black people and homosexuality. Moreover, I feel that there is a need for me to socialize with individuals belonging to the African-American culture and homosexuals in order for me to obtain first-hand information about their sentiments, experiences, knowledge, and such. I believe that through my willingness and determination to immerse myself into the African-American culture and the world of homosexuality, I will be able to promote cultural awareness simply by being conscious of the issues that they burden themselves with. EXODUS International is an online website that discriminates against homosexuals. It is a religion-based organization that provides assistance for individuals who want to ââ¬Å"leave homosexuality. â⬠The organization subtly reiterates that homosexuality is against the will and the word of God and that ââ¬Å"leaving homosexualityâ⬠is a way for individuals to live a better life according to what God wants for His children. Moreover, within the lines of EXODUS Internationalââ¬â¢s mission and objectives, the organization clearly mentions that homosexuals will not be able to live a fulfilling and holy life. (EXODUS International, 2005) The blog ââ¬Å"Stuff White People Likeâ⬠is an online website that discriminates against African-Americans simply because the site is devoted to discuss issues that generalize on the likes and dislikes of white people. The website lists more than one hundred things that white people like. I believe generalizing and labeling things or situations as something that is true or amenable only for a certain race is close to prejudice and bias since one is limiting these things and situations to a particular race only despite the fact that other individuals from diverse racial backgrounds may share the likes and dislikes of white people. (Stuff White People Like, 2009) I can honestly say that I am non-judgmental or prejudice in any way against any group of people in society depending on their race, ethnicity, religion, age, sexual orientation, gender, and such. I am also proud to say that my parents raised me well. Although my family is American and adheres to Christianity as a religion, we do not judge other people from different racial backgrounds and religions. Because of my parents and family, I was able to understand that people are different from each other, and although we are different, I do not have the right to judge other people because of it. Moreover, I understand that people have different frames of mind or worldviews and we see things and situations differently. Handling the matter only requires respect and acceptance and the understanding of cultural diversity or multiculturalism. Judging from my self-assessment of my cultural awareness and competency, I believe I will be able to uphold moral and ethical principles in my profession, especially with issues that concern multiculturalism. Perhaps the only challenge that I would have to face is how I am going to develop and increase my cultural awareness to cope with multicultural trends and new information. Essay --
Chief Joseph was the Nez-Pierce chief. He became famous when he tried to get his tribe to the Canadian border to be free. He did it so he and his tribe donââ¬â¢t go to reservations. He was considered to be one of the best chiefs ever. He took his fathers place as chief. His early life, leading years, and the end of his life tells what he had to go through to lead his tribe to freedom, even though it ended in vain. Joseph was born on March 3, 1840, in Wallowa Valley, Oregon Territory. His formal Indian name translates to Thunder Rolling Down the Mountain, but he goes by Joseph. He was named after his father, Joseph the Elder. He was named after he was baptized. His fatherââ¬â¢s relationship with the whites was unclear. He had been one if the first Indians to convert to Christianity. He forged a new treaty that created a reservation for the Nez Perce. When gold was discovered in the territories, white people began to come onto their lands. The treaty was soon destroyed after the U.S. government began to take back millions of acres that they had promised to Joseph the Elder. When Joseph the ...

Our Countryââ¬â¢s Good, Acting Advice For Act Essay
The scene starts off with just Ralph. I think I would tell the actor to look studious and intellectual, as Ralph would be making every effort to make the play to a very high standard so he can impress Captain Phillip in the hope of getting the promotion he has desired for some time. The mood should then change as soon as ââ¬Å"Shittyâ⬠Meg enters on stage. She should walk on with a ââ¬Å"tartyââ¬â¢ stride. She is old and thoroughly unattractive but she makes an over enthused effort to look glamorous and highly sexual. She should move toward Ralph in a very intimidating manor. Her sexual innuendoes should be delivered with a knowledgably bawdy tone and charisma, ââ¬Å"I can play Lieutenant, I can play with any part you likeâ⬠. When trying to convince Ralph into giving her a part in his play, ââ¬Å"You donââ¬â¢t want a young woman peculiar, Lieutenant, they donââ¬â¢t know nothingâ⬠, I think she should grab Ralphââ¬â¢s leg as soon as she says the line; ââ¬Å"Shut your eyes and Iââ¬â¢ll play you as tight as a virginâ⬠. Ralph should seem very intimidated and should jump up and back away from her in disgust. Meg should continue like this until Ralph has enough and shouts ââ¬Å"Long! ââ¬Å". At this point Meg should be slightly scared of Ralphââ¬â¢s anger but she keeps face by accusing Ralph of being a homosexual, ââ¬Å"We thought you was a madge cullâ⬠, she should say her lines in a patronising matter-of-fact way to try and lower Ralphââ¬â¢s high persona of himself. The comic mood should continue when Sideway comes on the stage. He should be lively and full of character as he is your typical London ââ¬Å"geezerâ⬠. He delivers his first few lines with an almost fake admiration for Ralph; ââ¬Å"I am calling you Mr Clarke as one calls Mr Garick Mr Garickâ⬠. Sideway should have a very ââ¬Å"in-your-faceââ¬â¢ attitude to Ralph. Ralph should be very intimidated and suspicious but remain on the spot in a very militaristic manner to give the impress that he is not phased by Sidewayââ¬â¢s very forward and friendly approach. Sideway should be walking around Ralph the whole time to try and show that he is nimble and enthusiastic; ââ¬Å"top of my profession, Mr Clarkeâ⬠. As Sideway delivers his lines, in a very reflective thoughtful manner, Ralph should gradually ease out of his rigid posture and himself seem to be thinking of the wonderful London which Sideway speaks of; ââ¬Å"London bridge at dawnâ⬠. Then when delivering the line ââ¬Å"plucking up courage, I pluck herâ⬠, he should remove a handkerchief out from Ralphââ¬â¢s back pocket, unknown to the audience or Ralph himself. Then when saying ââ¬Å"the handkerchiefsâ⬠he should reveal the handkerchief in a very theatrical way so it is made clear to both the audience and Ralph that Sideway had stolen his handkerchief. Ralph should seem surprised but should then give the impression that he is still very important and pretending almost that nothing had happened. As soon as Dabby and Mary enter, we should realise how different the two characters are. Dabby should be confident and pushy whereas Mary should be quiet and highly reserved. Ralph should be infatuated with Mary as soon as he lays eyes on her. Although he canââ¬â¢t take his eyes off her I donââ¬â¢t think that Mary is either confident or keen enough yet to achieve eye contact with him. Dabby should push Mary forward quite forcefully after saying her line; ââ¬Å"You asked to see Mary Brenham, Lieutenant. Here she is. ââ¬Å"Mary is still very nervous and still doesnââ¬â¢t show any sort of interest in Ralph whatsoever. He intimidates her because he is one of the officers and she is also scared because she is about to audition for a play. Ralph should seem keen to want to talk to Mary rather than Dabby, purely because he is smitten with her ââ¬Å"Do you know what a play is? ââ¬Å". Dabby to him is just an annoyance ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ve seen lots of plays, Lieutenant, so has Maryâ⬠. Mary must still remain quiet and nervous (this shown in the stage directions when it says that should say some of her lines ââ¬Å"inaudiblyââ¬â¢. Although Dabby is very keen to get Mary her part in the play because she feels that Ralph would be a good person for Mary to be with and sleep with on the ship ââ¬Å"Mary wants to be in your play, Lieutenantâ⬠but should be very obvious about the fact that she wants in the play as well ââ¬Å"and so do Iâ⬠. Ralph wants to make sure he gives Mary the impression that he wants her to be in the play by telling her all of the good things that other people have said about her; ââ¬Å"The Reverend Johnson told me you could read and write, Brenhamâ⬠. The first time that Ralphââ¬â¢s and Maryââ¬â¢s meet should be when they both start reading the play to each other, ââ¬Å"whilst there is life there is hopeâ⬠. Every time the two look each other in the eyes when they are reading the play the looks should be held and prolonged to show an obvious attraction from both of them. Ralph for the first time in this scene is above the convicts and seems to have intellectual superiority over the two of them. The actor should say this lines in quite a patronising way not because he wants the convicts to know their place but because that is how he treats everyone ââ¬Å"This is a comedy, they donââ¬â¢t really mean itâ⬠. Mary should seem very innocent and like a little girl. Especially when Ralph tries to explain the plot of the story which is rather bizarre ââ¬Å"she falls in love with Silviaâ⬠. In the stage directions it actually says ââ¬Å"Mary begins to giggle but tries to hold it backââ¬â¢. The mood then changes drastically as soon as Liz enters. Her stride should show that she is aggressive and very confident. Mary should very subtly sneak away and not say anything. Dabby and Liz should give each other evil glares. It says in the stage directions about the characters; ââ¬Å"each holding her ground, each ready to pounceââ¬â¢. Ralph should seem unphased purely because he knows nothing of the hostility between the two characters; ââ¬Å"Dabby: You canââ¬â¢t have her in the play, Lieutenant. Ralph: Why not? â⬠Lizââ¬â¢s anger just mounts until the point at which she nearly cracks, the stage directions say that she ââ¬Å"looks briefly at Dabby, as if to strike, then changes her mindââ¬â¢. The actress playing Liz should be forward and confident and intimidated by nothing ââ¬Å"she snatches the book from Ralph and strides offââ¬â¢.

Our School Exhibition
Our school held a very interesting exhibition of students' art and craft work last year. Itwas surprising to see the various pieces of handwork of such high standards. Theseexhibits were attractive and colourful for they had been prepared and designed well bythe students with guidance from the Art teachers. The students were obviouslyenthusiastic about their work; for each item was rendered carefully and lovingly withoutthe slightest trace of sloppinessThere were many sections to interest parents and friends who came to see the work of their children. The painting of nature, Malaysian scenes, flowers and fruits was of anexceptionally high standard. Other items such as puppets, dolls and articles of embroideryà were admired, too.In the geography section, there were clay models of physical features like hills, mountains and plateaus set in a natural environment of greenlandscape with rivers meanderingà through the land. Some articles like flowers made from silk were for sale and lad ies readily bought theseitems.
